About Q.E.D. OChem

I think that today's students are intelligent, sophisticated and goal driven. They always want to understand why they need to know this or that concept. They are capable of doing the work necessary to understand chemistry so the biggest challenge is to convince them that they can and should make the effort to learn the material.

A good part of student anxiety over Organic Chemistry is that learning Organic Chemistry involves learning simultaneously both a language as well as a science. In addition, learning this topic also will require students to both develop and apply their critical thinking skills. Organic Chemistry is of particular concern to students because most of its problems are based on recognizing similarities among molecules and then identifying potential chemical reactivities. For students this makes the subject of Organic Chemistry more like their experiences with Geometry and less like those "plug and chug" experiences they have had with most of their Calculus or Physics problems.

I wrote this text and created this website to help students better understand and organize their efforts to learn and understand Organic Chemistry. I haven't given up and neither should you.
